Description

Spend your gap year with Amate House! Develop your leadership skills, gain professional skills, and start your career in social justice with our fellowship program!

Provide direct nursing care to our patients – disease management, health education, counseling on diet and exercise, in addition to, direct patient care at the clinical site creating plans for transitions of care for hospitalized patients and supporting a Hepatitis C management clinic.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
o Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Patient Care Services staff including Medical Assistants assigned to a specific team in the health center
o Assists with program development and evaluation; serves as interdepartmental liaison
o Assist the Health Center Operations Director as well as Healthcare Providers in planning, scheduling, implementing, and evaluating daily patient visits and clinical operations of the care team
o Provides education to patients and families
o Provides nursing assessment and triage over the phone and in person; administers medications and assures maintenance of a safe patient care environment

$150 - $150 monthly

Each fellow is provided with opportunity to be matched with a professional mentor, a spiritual companion, and counseling resources. There are three service days and trainings for all fellows each service year as well as mentoring if wanted.

Desired Certifications or Qualifications

Qualifications and Required Skills:
• AND/BSN required
• Current RN Illinois license and CPR Certification
• One to two years’ experience in community health nursing of ambulatory care preferred
• Demonstrated cultural competency to work in a low income, minority environment
Other Desirable Qualifications:
• Professional Fluency in Spanish
