How it Works

Application Process

The duration of the application process varies between programs - some organizations are quick and accept applications in a matter of a few weeks, while others can take up to several months. Keep in mind, the start of and end dates for each service year will vary depending on the opportunity as well.

It is all worth the wait though! Once you’ve applied and been accepted to an opportunity, your organization will "Enroll" you, you’ll join the Service Year community, and you’ll be on your way to starting your life-changing service year experience.

    Served and Gained New Skills

I have learned so much from serving as a mentor! Each day is challenging and different, but it is extremely rewarding. Not a day goes by where I don’t feel like I’ve made a difference and helped at least one of my students overcome a challenge. I’m proud to be doing meaningful service! This experience has helped me build practical skills that go well beyond what I learned in the classroom, such as collaboration, patience, and flexibility.
