Community Need Addressed

As an intermediary organization HandsOn Greater Phoenix works with local non-profits and government organizations to develop each individual VISTA role. HandsOn staff brings the knowledge of AmeriCorps programing priorities and policy, as well as an in depth knowledge of what motivates individuals to take on a year of National Service. This means that our AmeriCorps VISTA roles can fall into any of the programing areas of VISTA. In this way HandsOn is able place AmeriCorps members in organizations who otherwise wouldn’t have the capacity or knowledge to develop a role on their own.

Position Outcomes

As an intermediary program that develops roles in all of the AmeriCorps VISTA programing priorities our results arch across the VISTA spectrum. As a part of the application process applicants will receive the individual Volunteer Assignment Description (VAD) before a 2nd round interview. This document details some of the deliverables of each position.

- HandsOn AmeriCorps VISTA members attend monthly professional development meetings where they receive training on various topics as well as build lasting supportive relationships with other members. These meetings are held at various organizations across the valley with a focus on introducing members to these organizations (building their knowledge of issues, resources addressing those issues and developing a professional network) - Currently we are offing an additional $100 per quarter grocery gift card - As a part of America’s Service Commissions our members have access to the Member Assistance Program (MAP) and all the benefits that entails
