Members of the Match Corps devote a year of public service to tutoring students at a Match Charter Public school campus in the city of Boston. Match Corps members provide academic support for students and forge strong relationships with students and their parents. Through their work, they foster student engagement and help students to gain mastery of academic content. The Match Corps plays a vital role in our schools; the individual attention that tutors provide has proven to have a tremendous impact on student success. Throughout their year of service, Match Corps members receive ongoing coaching and professional development. This support helps them to improve their skills in tutoring students and to develop as professionals.

Service Activities

Tutoring and mentoring middle or high schooler at one of our campuses.

Community Need Addressed

Match addresses the persistent achievement gap in pre K-12 urban education. In turn, Match is addressing the low college entrance and graduation rates among low-income minority students.

Position Outcomes

Match tutors will improve educational outcomes for low-income minority students, as measured by advanced placement exams, the SAT, MCAS, college acceptance, and college completion.

We offer subsidized housing but it's on a first come, first serve basis. Once spots are filled in the house, then the option for housing will no longer be available.

Match Corps members gain strong instructional skills. By working with outstanding teachers and coaches, they learn best practices in driving student achievement. Corps members learn how to establish strong relationships with students and leverage these relationships to increase student motivation and academic success. Through their experiences, members also learn a set of professional skills that are invaluable in any career. These skills include how to collaborate as a member of a team, how to grow in response to feedback, and how to persist in the face of challenges. Tutors learn how to lead an effective tutorial that increases student engagement and effectively teaches content. They discover how to establish ongoing relationships with parents from a wide array of backgrounds and how to utilize these relationships to improve student outcomes. Through their service, they also learn how to work in collaboration with others and how to contribute to a high-performing team.
