Texas Conservation Corps (TxCC) Crew Members partake in a wide variety of hands-on conservation projects throughout their term of service, such as habitat restoration, trail construction and maintenance, park development and clean-up, environmentally sustainable landscaping, disaster mitigation, wildland fuel reduction, and more. Members serve 5- or 11-month terms on a crew with 2 Crew Leaders and 4-8 Crew Members. No previous experience is necessary - all you need to be a member with TxCC is a positive attitude and willingness to work within a diverse crew!
Service Activities
Crew Member activities may include:
• Construct & maintain trails
• Assist with erosion control
• Perform construction & upkeep of public land features
• Removal of invasive plant species
• Partake in wildland fuel reduction efforts and habitat restoration projects
• Maintain vehicles, tools, and equipment
• Camp for up to 10 days at a time
• Deployment by FEMA to help communities impacted by natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and tornados
Community Need Addressed
Lack of conservation jobs training programs, large backlog of work needed to improve accessibility and safety of public lands
Position Outcomes
Increased job training for young adults with GEDs and high school degrees, improved public safety and accessibility on public lands
