Description
Hurricanes, tornados, or flooding often come to mind when we think about disaster, however, disasters can take many shapes. It could be prolonged draught, a particularly cold winter, a man-made disaster or even a pandemic. We may or may not know what or when disaster will strike our community but a little planning and preparing for the unknown can go a long way in helping a community survive when tragedy occurs. Rebuilding Together is seeking an AmeriCorps Community Partner Coordinator to support our disaster readiness and recovery program in the gulf coast.
The Rebuilding Together gulf coast affiliates are eager to help more people and this position will support them in understanding what they can commit to and help them standardize their process and work related to disaster. This is an opportunity to build relationships and partnerships to support disaster readiness and recovery.
In this position, you will report directly to the Rebuilding Together National Office in Washington DC, but the member will reside with and work out of the Rebuilding Together New Orleans affiliate offices. You will report to the national office, but service time will be divided into 80% Community Partner Coordinator and 20% time for direct hands-on service with the affiliate. The goal is for you to understand the larger community partnerships, while also understanding the hands-on work at a home – it takes both to help communities thrive after disaster strikes. You will strive to build trust and awareness among targeted client populations most in need of our services and activate the local community to get involved.
You will represent Rebuilding Together in the community and builds relationships with community groups and leaders. You will also identify opportunities to collaborate with community partners to better serve our clients and communities.
Additionally, you will identify and implements outreach strategies and techniques to increase and engage volunteers (both skilled and unskilled).
