AmeriCorps members that serve with SBP directly impact the lives of our clients’ by contributing to the SBP mission: shrinking the time between disaster and recovery. Members work with clients and volunteers to rebuild homes damaged by natural disasters. Since 2006, SBP has rebuilt 2000+ homes and developed affordable housing for those impacted by natural disasters.

Join us as an AmeriCorps member and you will develop skills in public speaking, problem-solving, and project management. While serving with SBP, you will achieve measurable results for our clients, gain leadership experience and create connections with volunteers and corporate partners. You will also receive coaching and mentorship from SBP managers that are invested in your success as a leader!

Service Activities

SBP AmeriCorps members serve their ten-month term in one of the following positions:

Project Lead: Train and coach volunteers in completing basic construction tasks on clients’ homes. Celebrate volunteer impact and teach volunteers to adhere to safety protocols and procedures at project sites.

Disaster Recovery Project Lead: Deploy to communities immediately after a disaster. When not on deployment, serve as a Project Lead. (Only available in Houston and New Orleans)

Supply & Logistics Coordinator: Coordinate the operations of SBP’s warehouse and delivery system to ensure that project sites have the tools and materials needed to function optimally.

Construction Coordinator: Coordinate subcontractor schedules and monitor the progress of construction projects. Ensure that proper permits are secured for each project site.

Client Services Coordinator: Serve as the point of contact and resource for the clients of SBP. Assess clients’ needs and provide referrals to clients throughout the application and rebuilding processes.

Volunteer Coordinator: Recruit, orient, and support volunteers serving with SBP. Create an optimal service experience for volunteers that fosters service learning and leverages volunteers' talents and time to meet client and community needs.

Previous construction experience is not required. Training will be provided during the onboarding process.

Community Need Addressed

AmeriCorps members serve in communities to ensure that individuals impacted by disaster have a safe, stable place to call home. There are several ways that AmeriCorps members help our clients return home, including: rehabilitating damaged homes, building new homes for families that lost everything and transforming blighted properties by constructing affordable homes in communities recovering from disaster.

Position Outcomes

SBP AmeriCorps members are a part of supporting 23,500 volunteers, building 375 homes, and returning 800 amount of people home after a natural disaster every year. We recruit and train volunteers year-round, develop and implement rebuilding plans and deliver materials to project sites all so that our clients can return to safe housing as soon as possible. Every member of SBP’s team contributes to our mission: shrinking the time between disaster and recovery.
